The DStv HD decoders especially the latest in series – HD Zappa 5 Series no doubt, has got software user interface quite similar to the Explora decoder. However its functions and operations are somehow different. DStv Remote Control Buttons and their Functions
It is important to note that this tutorial works for all models of DStv decoders, which are HD (High Definition). They include all versions of the Explora decoders and all series of the HD Zappa. They are as follows;
STAND-BY BUTTON – DSTV REMOTE CONTROL
This allows you to quickly put the DStv HD Decoder into standby (or bring it out of standby). Quick tip is that if you press and hold the STANDBY button, the DStv HD Decoder will reboot.
PROFILE BUTTON
This button is not yet active on DStv HD Zappa decoders. This is a futuristic component, which MultiChoice DStv hopes to put to use in the near future.
TV GUILD BUTTON – DSTV REMOTE CONTROL
Your hotlink to the TV Guide with 8 full days of programming information. It allows you to easily plan your viewing. Also, you can access the TV Guide by pressing the DStv button and going to “Planner”.
INFO BUTTON
Pressing INFO on any programme reveals more information about it on screen, including a detailed synopsis.
OK BUTTON
The OK button on the DStv remote control allows you to select on-screen items, and also allows you to find out everything you can do with content. Another quick tip is that When highlighted, press OK on any programme to see the available actions. This ranges from setting a reminder, to even finding out when the programme is on again in the next 8 days.
P+ / P- BUTTONS
These are program buttons, which changes channels. When scrolling through a list, you can press P+/P- to scroll a page at a time. However, you can scroll one day at a time on the TV Guild using these program buttons.
Other buttons on the DStv remote control include;
- ALT button, which Switches between the last two viewed channels.
- OPTIONS BUTTON – Press OPTIONS on any screen to see the available choices. When watching TV, you can change Language or Aspect Ratio (and more). Also, pressing options on the menus can change the order of items on screen or change the display.
- 1 – 0 NUMBER BUTTONS enables you switch channels by directly inputting their channel numbers. All other functions where numbers are required, enter or edit text and many more.
- ARC BUTTON is your hotlink to changing the aspect ratio on the fly. If you don’t like the screen size, press ARC on the DStv remote control until you find a suitable aspect ratio. However, this does not change the default aspect ratio setting.
- TV BUTTON – If you are using the menus or apps, the TV button is your hotlink back to video.
More Remote Control Buttons
SEARCH BUTTON – Your hotlink to Search. Get A-Z listings of sport, movies or search for a programme or for a range of programmes that meet your specific needs.You can also access Search by pressing the DStv button and going to “Search”.
BACK BUTTON – Press BACK to remove onscreen items or save your settings.
DSTV BUTTON (Blue) – Goes to DStv Central. All content, settings, information, schedules and more – all at the touch of one button.
GRID BUTTON – Displays the channel grid which lists available channels in an easy to use grid. Use the arrows to move the highlight and see what’s on other channels. This button also doubles up as the RIGHT arrow. These buttons are also called direction buttons. They are used when you want to delete mail messages and clear envelops on TV screens by pressing the left direction button until all messages disappear.
V+ / V- – Changes the volume (if audio is set to Variable). If you have set the audio to Fixed, pressing these buttons will NOT change audio. See “User Preferences” in “Settings”.
MUTE BUTTON – Mutes the audio. Quick tip: Can also be set to “half mute” mode. See “User Preferences” in “Settings”.
HELP BUTTON – Where available, pressing HELP will display contextual support.
Another set of buttons you can find on the DStv HD decoder remote controller are the 4 Arrow buttons or simply called navigational buttons. These buttons helps you move through highlighted menus or scroll to any other available options etc.

I cant find the exit button
My remote changed to mode TV2 so whenever I press any Barton a green light on TV2 lights and it’s not responding to the decoder when I called the service center they told me to press the shift button I told them their is no shift button on my remote they then told me to buy a new remote. I know my remote is still working except children might have changed its mode accidentally. So I need help.
