This article explains everything about the new DStv 3-decoder Extra-view and how it works and informs that it is now available in Nigeria. It is true that the Extraview involving 3 decoders arrived late in Nigeria, this article explains why. Furthermore, I also explained the davantages and disadvantages of this new extra view to help you make informed decisions before opting for it.
DStv 3-decoder Extra-view launched over 4 years ago so that subscribers now enjoy 3 views in one subscription account. A little shift from the dual view of the Extra-view setup, one more decoder added to increase viewing points. However, the subscription remains for one account alone. Unfortunately, this new feature from MultiChoice exists in South Africa and other countries but not in Nigeria. This article will tell you why there are no DStv 3-decoder Extra-view systems in Nigeria for now.
What Exactly is DStv 3-Decoder Extra-view (Triple View)
As explained in my previous post titled DStv 3-Decoder Extra-View Setup, this new innovation is an enhanced version of the normal XtraView. However, the 3-decoder system now allow for independent viewing and control of three decoders linked to a single account.
A unique feature of the DStv 3-decoder triple Extra-View is that the Explora decoder must be the primary decoder. Any other added Extra-View compatible decoder may become the secondary and tertiary respectively.
In contrast, the conventional DStv Extra-View comprises of only two decoders – primary and secondary. While the primary controls the other to an extent, both rely on each other for heartbeat communication. The Extra-View Heartbeat is the support signal, which makes the linked decoders function within the provisions of the setup. Therefore, it is very vital for distributing DStv signals to multiple decoders and TV.
It is surprising that since the triple view was launched in South Africa in 2016, DStv subscribers in Nigeria are yet to start enjoying this new satellite TV technology, for these reasons below.
Reason for Absence of DStv Triple View in Nigeria
DTMEDIA.tech researched to know why the triple view system was not yet available in Nigeria. The research revealed that MultiChoice DStv has not yet upgraded the subscriber management App utilized in Nigeria. Interestingly, this App would handle the 3-decoder Extra-view linkage for any regional offices and dealer shops in Nigeria.
Another notion has it that among all models of DStv decoders, the Explora has gotten least patronage. It is believed that the high cost of purchasing the Explora is the reason for low patronage. Unfortunately, it is a compulsory component of the triple view setup.
According to MultiChoice, the Explora must be the primary decoder in the triple view XtraView. Any other decoder model, which is compatible with Extra-View may serve as secondary or tertiary.
Lastly, it is sad that the DStv infrastructure is still resonating or stuck on the 2-decoder XtraView setup. While South Africa and others are already enjoying the DStv 3-decoder triple view Extra-View, Nigerians are still blissfully unaware. Although they pay highest, enhanced satellite TV triple view technology has remained a mirage in Nigeria.
