This post announcement is to guild you on how to collect your Business name Registration Certificate, conducted under the free scheme last year. Furthermore, I shall show you how to also check if your Business Name was successful in the registration process. After confirming that your business name scaled through, then proceed to collect your CAC free business name registration certificates.
CAC Free Business Name Registration
Let us recall that early last year, the federal government opened a window to register 250,000 micro, small and medium scale business names in Nigeria for free. This policy and action of the federal government gears towards encouraging the formalization of MSMEs in Nigeria. Furthermore, having an official business name enables enterprises to engage and benefit from numerous Government incentives such as the Survival fund (grant). As a result, thousands of MSME business owners tendered business names as each state got a fixed maximum slot. For instance, Imo State got 6,000 slots out of the 250,000 openings. The exercise came and went successfully and was absolutely free of any charges. During the exercise, the Corporate Affairs Commission appointed some State Aggregators (Focal Persons) for each state. These officers had the responsibility to ordinate the free business names registration and give information to inquiries from the public.
In addition, some Entrepreneurial Development Institutes (EDI) also played supportive roles to ensure that grassroots business owners benefited from the free scheme. Furthermore, the Technology Incubation Centres (TIC) of the National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI) in all states of the federation was not left out. These Entrepreneurial development institutes helped to mobilize local entrepreneurs who were yet to register their business names.

How to Collect your CAC Free Business Name Registration Certificate
#1 Business Name Search
- Go to the CAC website
- When the website opens, go to PUBLIC SEARCH
- Enter the exact Business Name as you used it during the free business name regiatration exercise, and click SEARCH.
- You may see NO RESULT FOUND, when the page opens. However, you will see BUSINESS NAME above .
- Click the BUSINESS NAME tab
If your CAC free business name registration was successful, your business name and details will appear. This includes your allocated RC Number.
#2 Contact your CAC State Aggregator
If you saw your business name, you may proceed to contact your state aggregator from the list above. Contact your State Aggregator using the phone numbers and addresses above and the officer will tell you where and when to come to pick up your certificate.
