It is good news that MultiChoice DStv Nigeria has extended the deadline for free exchange of old decoders to new models. Due to huge public turn-out to this drive, MultiChoice DStv extended the deadline in order to accommodate more subscribers. However, the long cues of subscribers waiting long hours to swap old decoders for new keeps increasing. But do you know if your decoder is due for swap? Anyway, you can exchange your decoder if it has lasted over 10 years and no longer performing well.
Decoder Models Due for Exchange
MultiChoice requests that you should trade in your decoder if it develops fault or damages completely. Furthermore, only MultiChoice has the right to open up and repair faulty DStv and GOtv decoders. The essence is to preserve the originality and ensure that the quality seal on the decoder remains intact. You may also exchange your faulty or old decoder models for newer ones if you are using the following models;
- All old models of SD PVR decoders
- DSD 990
- Legacy DSD 910
- DSD 1110
- Decoder DSD 1131
- DSD 1132
Any of the above decoder models though may still be active, but we strongly advice it to be changed. To see the pictures of the decoder models to know if yours is among, read up All DStv Decoder models.
Offices where Subscribers can Exchange their Old DStv Decoders
On my blog article DStv is now changing old decoders for new models, we highlighted the different branches of MultiChoice DStv in Nigeria. These branches are recommended places where you could walk in and swap old decoders for new one. However, more time has been given for the decoder swap. Fortunately, you can avail yourself of this opportunity to change and get yourself a better decoder.
What Happens at Decoder Exchange Deadline
At the expiration of the deadline, decoder exchange might not remain free of charge. Subscribers who wish to exchange old PVR or Dual View decoders shall get two DSD 1132 decoders. For already established Extra-View accounts, the new decoders would be paired accordingly. This arrangement will enable the subscriber enjoy a double view from the two decoder points while paying for a single account.
While getting ready to turn in your old decoder, ensure that your subscription is active. This is one major condition for the DStv free decoder exchange. Furthermore, you need not present the receipt of purchase of the old decoder. Simply go with the old decoder and your valid form of identification. For DStv users in Nigeria, the valid forms if identification are;
- International Passport
- National Identity Card
- Driving License.
If you have any questions, or few challenges related to this or more, we welcome your comments and do not forget to share this news with your friends on the social network. This could be the news they are waiting to hear.
Meanwhile as the years roll by, DStv shall still continue this exercise if they fail to get all old models successfully exchanged. This is how you can change your old DStv decoder model in the future if you fail to change it in 2014.

How is the current fee of Dstv explora swap.
Despite the sermons and advert of DSTV decoder swap being free. I was charged the sum of N5,000. Today by their agents at the Abeokuta (grammar school) outlet.
This is fraudulent and against the adverts being spread all around by the Multichoice company.
The company needs to work more on it’s reputation.
Stop defrauding my people of their hard earned money.
It ain’t easy to make money in Nigeria.

You may have to take the both decoders to the DStv office. After changing the faulty secondary decide, they shall connect the old primary to the new secondary decoder and set them up for a relinking to ExtraView. Afterwards, simply take them home and plug back the wires as before into the primary and the new secondary decoders.

Currently, you cannot exchange any old decoder for the Explora decoder. If you need an Explora, you simply have to buy. The current price now is between 40,000 to 50,000 naira. However, MultiChoice will give you the Zapa Single HD decoder in exchange for the old or faulty decoders. But it will attract some little payments such as up to 4,000 naira.
